A line of thunderstorms pushed off the coast and over the Laguna Madre and Coastal Waters very early in the morning on May 9th. The Texas Coastal Ocean Observing Network (TCOON) site at SPI Brazos Santiago (BZST2) recorded wind gusts over 34 knots from 1:42AM CDT through 2:24AM CDT with the highest wind gust observed of 73 knots at 1:54AM CDT.

An line of thunderstorms came off Cameron County and northeastern Mexico and raced across the Lower Texas Coastal Waters early in the morning of May 9th. Measured gusts at several of the sites near South Padre Island were between 70 to 80 mph, with one gust measured at 89 mph as the line blew through. It continued until all the way through the offshore Gulf waters, where Buoy 42020 experienced wind gusts of 41 knots just before 4 AM CDT.
