Event narrative

Blowing snow stuck to road surfaces, creating dangerous travel conditions. Multiple vehicle accidents occurred.

Wider weather episode

Deep low pressure over the Great Lakes and high pressure over Montana brought gusty northwest winds, on the order of 40 mph, to much of North Dakota. Falling snow was light, and in some cases just flurries, so although visibility was reduced at times, not significantly. Blowing snow and significant drifting of snow, given the existing deep and loose snowpack over the area, were the main impacts. In many locations road surface temperatures warmed to above freezing and drifting snow stuck to the road and re-froze, resulting in many vehicle accidents. One injury (indirect) occurred in Stutsman County.
