Severe drought conditions from October 2022 persisted through April 2023. A very small area of extreme drought was introduced in the counties far southwestern and southeastern corners.

Wider weather episode

There was little change in overall drought conditions across New Mexico during April 2023. Only small expansions of extreme drought was observed in extreme eastern Quay County.
