Event narrative

After little rainfall in February, March remained dry with less than an inch of rainfall over most of inland Collier County. These prolonged dry conditions led to the designation of severe drought (D2) by the U.S. Drought Monitor, and eventually worsened to extreme drought (D3) on March 28th. A burn ban was implemented for Collier County effective March 4th.

Wider weather episode

Prolonged periods of dry weather across much of South Florida during the winter months led to the development of severe to extreme drought conditions during the month of March.
