Event narrative
Winds began to increase late in the evening of the 19th as the front approached from the south. Blizzard conditions develop in Nome the morning of the 20th as snow moved into the area. The visibility improved as the winds died down late in the afternoon. The winds in both Nome and Golovin gusted as high as 54 mph during the event, while winds gusted as high as 52 mph in White Mountain.
Wider weather episode
A front associated with a 964 mb low moving north through the Bering Sea brought blizzard conditions to the portions of the west coast of Alaska.
