Event narrative

Multiple sizes of hail were reported near Homeland. The largest observed was golf ball size in diameter.

Wider weather episode

A quasi-stationary frontal zone was meandering near the I-10 corridor in the afternoon under zonal flow aloft and passing weak short wave PVA. Cold temperatures aloft combined with shear and CAPE in the hail growth zone combined with diurnal instability and mesoscale boundary collisions to produce large hail in scattered severe afternoon and evening storms.
