Dime to nickel sized hail one inch deep fell around the Gila Hot Springs area. In addition to the hail, 1.30 inches of rain fell in an hour.

Wider weather episode

In an unusual mid-May pattern, an upper high over the southeast United States brought a weak, but deep southeast flow to southern New Mexico. Moisture was deep enough to produce some locally heavy rain and even some near severe thunderstorms over the Gila region.
