Event narrative

Drought conditions improved with the removal of extreme and exceptional drought conditions across the county. There remained a portion of severe drought in the southeastern and western sections of the county.

Wider weather episode

There were several significant heavy rain events that occurred over parts of eastern NM during the month of May. These events, while causing flooding impacts, also improved drought conditions across a wide swath of eastern NM. This resulted in the complete removal of extreme and exceptional drought conditions with the overall coverage of severe drought conditions also lowering some.
