Event narrative

Drought conditions improved in Quay County during the month of May with the removal of extreme drought conditions. A small area of severe drought conditions persisted in the northeastern section of the county.

Wider weather episode

There were several significant heavy rain events that occurred over parts of eastern NM during the month of May. These events, while causing flooding impacts, also improved drought conditions across a wide swath of eastern NM. This resulted in the complete removal of extreme and exceptional drought conditions with the overall coverage of severe drought conditions also lowering some.
