A severe thunderstorm produced ping-pong ball sized hail along Route 35 between Richfield and Mount Pleasant Mills.
Wider weather episode
A cold front dropped southwestward from New England into Pennsylvania during the late afternoon and evening of June 3, 2023, spawning scattered thunderstorms. SBCAPE was moderately high (>2000 J/kg), and deep layer (0-6 km) shear of 40 kts was supportive of supercells across the eastern half of Pennsylvania. Perhaps the most notable aspects of this event were the large hail and the northeast-southwest cell movement.
