Drought — Coastal Collier County, Florida

2023-04-01 to 2023-04-30 · Coastal Collier County, Florida

Event narrative

Lack of significant rainfall over the previous 3 months led to the continuation of extreme drought (D3) conditions over the western half Collier County in the beginning of April. Less than 2 inches of rain was measured in many areas from January 1st through March 31st. This was approximately 10 to 25% of the normal value for that time period. Increasing rainfall around the middle of April led to conditions improving to severe drought (D2) conditions with a total of 3-5 of rain throughout the month. A burn ban remained in place for all of Collier County through the month of April.

Wider weather episode

Prolonged dry conditions over SW Florida led to continued severe (D2) to extreme drought (D3) conditions over a majority of Collier, Hendry, and Glades counties in April 2023.
