A 38 year old male drowned in a rip current on Lea Island, NC Saturday afternoon. Two other people caught in the rip were rescued.

Weekend crowd, midday low tide, and a refracting south swell combined to bring moderate to strong rip currents to east-facing Cape Fear beaches.
