Event narrative
Three river rafters using inflatable canoes got caught up in swift water flows which were elevated due to recent warm weather and accelerated snowmelt. One rafter got separated from the group and was discovered downstream. CPR efforts were not successful and rafter passed away.
Wider weather episode
Accelerated snowmelt from a near-record snowpack due to above normal temperatures produced high and fast flow on drainages in several west-central counties.
