As a cold front approached western Nebraska on the afternoon of May 4th, thunderstorms developed in portions of north central Nebraska and the western Nebraska Sandhills. As activity progressed east into the evening hours, severe storms produced hail up to quarter size west of Tryon in McPherson County.
