Event narrative

AWOS station KVKY Main Pass 289c measured a wind gust of 53 mph or 46 knots.

Wider weather episode

A cluster of thunderstorms developed in Mexico along the Texas/Mexico border west of San Antonio on the evening of April 14th. This cluster was able to maintain continuity to at least some degree all the way across Texas. As it moved into western Louisiana on the morning of the 15th, it was tracking into an environment of increased instability. This aided in the organization of these storms into a Mesoscale Convective Complex (MCS). As the MCS raced across southeast Louisiana, it produced severe winds across portions of the local coastal waters.
