Event narrative
AWOS station KVKY main pass 289c recorded a wind gust of 41 mph or 36 knots.
Wider weather episode
A stalled frontal boundary had been place across the northern Gulf Coast for a couple days. A weakening upper low currently moving through the Central Plains moved east across the lower/mid Mississippi Valley on the 27th. This aided in the genesis of a surface low along the front which began to drive it eastward. The combination of pressure falls from cyclogenesis, increasing low level moisture, cooling in the mid-upper levels, and still warm temps at the surface was a primed environment for severe thunderstorm development. Some storms across the region produced severe winds across the local coastal waters.
