NOAA/NOS site VAKF1 at Virginia Key recorded a 35 knot/40 mph wind gust as a strong thunderstorm moved offshore.

As a shortwave moved across the Florida Peninsula, abundant low-level moisture and diurnal heating led to plenty of instability in the atmosphere on April 17th. Numerous showers and thunderstorms formed in the evening over the interior which moved offshore into the Atlantic overnight.
