Event narrative

In addition to several mesonet stations around downtown Juneau reporting wind gusts of around 60 mph, the Juneau Airport ASOS measured a peak gust of 71 mph at 3:46 PM AKDT. AEL&P utility company reported a few small power outages around Juneau due to the winds and tree branches coming down. A weather service employee noted multiple trees down on their property on North Douglas as did the Auke Bay Elementary School.

Wider weather episode

A shortwave moving around a broader low in the Gulf of Alaska saw an embedded band of convective activity develop with strong cold air advection behind it, which resulted in an area of enhanced winds which tracked northward across the Inside Passage.
