Event narrative

Golf ball sized hail fell with a rapidly developing supercell between Wagon Mound and Roy.

Wider weather episode

A backdoor front entered northeastern NM during the early morning hours increasing surface moisture across the region. This added moisture along with daytime heating allowed isolated supercells to develop across southeastern Colfax and eastern Mora counties, moving southeast towards the Texas state line. Storms produced up to golf ball sized hail in Springer and near Roy, and wind gusts of up to 74 mph at Tucumcari.
