Event narrative

A mesonet station just southeast of Vaughn reported a 67 mph wind gust from a dry thunderstorm.

Wider weather episode

The combination of a disturbance over CO along with healthy low-level moisture resulted in severe storms developing across the eastern plains of New Mexico. These cells produced quarter sized hail at times. Cells congealed into squall lines as they approached the Texas border resulting in severe wind gusts.
