The Fort Sumner Airport measured a peak thunderstorm outflow wind gust of 59 mph.
Wider weather episode
An upper level disturbance passing over CO combined with sufficient low-level moisture allowed for scattered storms to develop over northeastern NM during the afternoon of July 19th. These scattered storms stayed over very rural areas through the mid-to-late afternoon period likely producing strong winds and large hail. There was only one report of an estimated severe wind gust just east of Gladstone, NM however.
