Vehicle-mounted anemometer measured wind gusts of 55 to 60 mph.
Wider weather episode
A line of thunderstorms moved southeast across much of north central and east central Kansas during the day on May 9th. There were numerous reports of large hail and sporadic wind damage reports along with a few wind gusts in excess of 70 mph. Storm chasers also documented a small tornado near Miltonvale. That storm went on to produce another mainly rain wrapped tornado with minor tree damage in southwest Clay County.
