An estimated 2 to 6 inches of widespread wet, heavy snow across the county combined with blowing snow from north winds gusting to 50 mph at times caused very hazardous travel conditions on the 1st. Schools were closed throughout the county on the 1st.

A combination of Gulf and Atlantic moisture being drawn into a deepening low pressure system over the Upper Great Lakes resulted in record calendar day snowfall totals for May over portions of west and north central Upper Michigan on the 1st and 2nd.
