Event narrative

Huron Harbor Light C-MAN Station (HHLO1) recorded a peak convective gust of 54 mph from a passing rain shower.

Wider weather episode

A surface low drifted north-northeastward across east-central and northeastern WI during the morning through early evening of the 16th. Simultaneously, the low's trailing cold front swept eastward from east-central and southeastern WI, northeastern IL, and western IN to central Lake Erie and eastern OH. Within the warm sector ahead of the cold front, multicell showers and thunderstorms persisted generally north-northeastward across western Lake Erie and produced a few gale-force and storm-force peak convective gusts along and near the lakeshore in northwest OH. This convection occurred in an environment with weak MUCAPE, weak DCAPE, and moderate effective bulk shear. The strong to severe gusts were likely the result of precipitation transporting much stronger winds aloft to the surface.
