Event narrative

Debris of mud and rock fell across portions of the Rio Grande Trail outside of Aspen as a result of heavy rain from thunderstorms.

Wider weather episode

The first push of monsoon moisture of the season resulted in widespread showers and thunderstorms across western Colorado. Storms were slow moving and produced heavy rain. As a result, localized debris flows occurred across the region, including in Pitkin County.
