Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms developed across Virginia ahead of a surface trough and cold front across the Ohio Valley and southern Appalachian region. These storms produced locally damaging winds across the northern and northwest Piedmont of central North Carolina in the evening hours. Storms then weakened with southeastern extent over the central and eastern Piedmont to Coastal Plain by late evening.
