Event narrative
The US-189 at Deer Creek Dam mesonet station recorded a wind gust of 84 mph as a result of outflow winds associated with a line of showers and thunderstorms moving through the area.
Wider weather episode
Following scattered convection throughout the afternoon hours, a more cohesive squall line formed over Utah's West Desert region. This squall progressed eastward through the northern portions of the state, resulting in a swath of strong to very strong wind gusts, due in part to low dew points and dry low levels of the atmosphere.
