Long term drought conditions continued across St. Croix. Despite the island receiving some rain, the wells did not respond. Higher than normal temperatures also exacerbated conditions for farmers and local workers. The island stayed under Extreme Drought (D3) throughout the entire month.
Wider weather episode
The drought conditions that has been impacting the United States Virgin Islands continued during the month of July. The combination of the heat and drought is causing stress in vegetation, cattle and poultry. Veterinarians were asking to double the ration of water for the animals. Farmers are also reporting the death of several animals and are taking extra precautions to protect them from the heat and drought. A territorial Fire Ban is in effect for the islands.
