Event narrative

A 26 foot double decker pontoon boat capsized near Deepwater Point at the mouth of the Grand Lagoon during a squall line passage with winds measured near hurricane force nearby. Nine people were ejected from the boat, and two people died.

Wider weather episode

The middle part of June was unusually stormy across the area. Numerous rounds of strong to severe storms impacted the region with multiple squall lines producing strong to severe winds across the coastal waters. Unfortunately, two fatalities occurred on June 16th due to a capsized pontoon boat during one of the severe squall line passages.
