Event narrative

A video of a funnel cloud that became a landspout was shared by EM. The landspout formed near St. Mary's near 401 East Coyners Street around 4:17 pm and persisted through 4:22 pm where outflow boundaries converged. There was broad rotation in the video around a thin, elevated condensation funnel. Debris was seen rotating around the condensation funnel and was mostly vegetation (leaves). Some objects were blown around on the ground, but significant damage did not occur. There was also some wind blown debris near the Meeting Street Boat Ramp in St. Marys.

Wider weather episode

Broad troughing was in the low and mid-levels across the region with prevailing SW flow and above normal moisture content over the local area. High DCAPE over 1000 J/kg favored wet downbursts in stronger cells.
