Event narrative

Widespread trees were blown down along the Douglas Highway from Denton to Hazlehurst. The time of damage was based on radar.

Wider weather episode

A mean westerly steering flow pushed a progressive Gulf sea breeze inland and pinned the Atlantic sea breeze between I-95 and the Atlantic coast in the afternoon where explosive convection developed over a very moist and unstable airmass. Additional strong to severe storms developed across SE GA near a meandering surface front, but coverage was limited given drier mean layer moisture.
