An occluded low over Michigan and trough over the East Coast allowed for seasonably strong shear and relatively high mid level lapse rates to overspread the region. This resulted in scattered storms which produced damaging winds moving from Virginia into northeast North Carolina in the pre-dawn hours of June 27.
