Event narrative

On June 22, three fires were started along State Route 92 between Sierra Vista and Palominas by a vehicle dragging a loose chain. The fires spread rapidly due to gusty winds with two fires combining to form the Wildhorse Fire. State Route 92 was closed for a time and residents of Three Canyons development were temporarily evacuated. While burning in a residential area, no houses were damaged, although four small outbuildings were destroyed. The fire consumed a total of 747 acres before becoming fully contained June 24. Fire suppression costs tallied $350,000.
