Route 9J and Knickerbocker Road were closed due to multiple downed trees.
Wider weather episode
The combination of an upper-level disturbance and nearby surface low and frontal boundary resulted in isolated showers and thunderstorms across portions of eastern New York on July 4, 2023. A few of these thunderstorms became severe producing downed trees and wires. A more concentrated area of damage occurred from the Rensselaer/Columbia County line southward to Styvesant. A NWS Storm Survey confirmed a straight line wind event occurred with winds estimated up to 100 mph causing widespread damage.
