Event narrative

A debris flow of mud and rocks occurred as a result of heavy rain over portions of the Grizzly Creek Fire burn scar. The debris flow took place near mile marker 120.6. The No Name Creek rain gauge reported 1.86 inches of rain fell in 50 minutes.

Wider weather episode

Abundant subtropical moisture paired with weak steering flow resulted in slow moving showers and thunderstorms across the higher terrain of western Colorado. Some of the stronger storms produced heavy rain which led to debris flows in portions of Garfield County, including on the Grizzly Creek Fire burn scar in Glenwood Canyon. Flooding also occurred in portions of Moffat County due to heavy rain from storms.
