The Cape Henry mesonet (CHYV2) measured a gust to 48 knots (55 mph).

Wider weather episode

An occluded low over Michigan and trough over the East Coast allowed for seasonably strong shear and relatively high mid level lapse rates to overspread the region. This resulted in scattered storms which produced gusty winds as they moved over the Virginia coastal waters during the predawn hours of June 27. Additionally, the cold front slowly moved towards the coastal waters during the afternoon and evening on June 27, allowing for more scattered storms to develop.
