A mature waterspout was observed north of Marathon and relayed by social media. The condensation funnel cloud extended from cloud base to the water surface.

Wider weather episode

A shortwave upper level trough over the Florida Peninsula combined with the lower tropospheric ridge axis to the east-southeast of the Florida Keys promoted a west-southwest flow. This synoptic environment supported the growth of a regenerative convective cloud line east of Big Pine Key through the Florida Bay waters north of Marathon.
