Event narrative

Two mature waterspouts were observed north of Marathon and relayed through social media. A spray ring was observed with one of the waterspouts.

Wider weather episode

A shortwave upper level trough over the Florida Peninsula combined with the lower tropospheric ridge axis to the east-southeast of the Florida Keys promoted a west-southwest flow. This synoptic environment supported the growth of a regenerative convective cloud line east of Big Pine Key through the Florida Bay waters north of Marathon.
