A timelapse video of a waterspout relayed through social media indicated a location north of Pigeon Key. The waterspout was in the mature phase and narrow, with a spray ring visible.

The wider storm

A shortwave upper level trough over the Florida Peninsula combined with the lower tropospheric ridge axis to the east-southeast of the Florida Keys promoted a west-southwest flow. This synoptic environment supported the growth of a regenerative convective cloud line east of Big Pine Key through the Florida Bay waters north of Marathon.
