During the third week of August, the northern two thirds of central and southeast Phillips County worsened to D2-Severe drought conditions, while the southern one third remained in D1-Moderate drought. These conditions continued through the end of August.

Wider weather episode

A period of well below average rainfall during July and through the first part of August, allowed drought conditions to worsen in northeastern Montana.
