SFWMD mesonet station LZ40 reported a peak wind gust of 37 knots / 43 mph as a thunderstorm moved over Lake Okeechobee.

As an upper-level trough moved over the Florida Peninsula, abundant low-level moisture and diurnal heating led to plenty of instability in the atmosphere on July 16th. Numerous showers and thunderstorms formed in the afternoon and evening across South Florida with the primary hazard of damaging winds.
