Event narrative

Member of broadcast media reported a waterspout over the Loxahatchee River near Tequesta. The waterspout progressed eastward across the river before dissipating as it approached the river bank.

As an upper-level trough moved over the Florida Peninsula, abundant low-level moisture and diurnal heating led to plenty of instability in the atmosphere on July 16th. Numerous showers and thunderstorms formed in the afternoon and evening across South Florida with the primary hazard of damaging winds.
