Increased moisture behind a backdoor front across eastern New Mexico led to the development of scattered storms across the east slopes of the central mountain chain growing upscale as they moved east. Some of the storms briefly became severe, producing strong wind gusts at Tucumcari, Roswell, and near Bitter Lake Wildlife Refuge.
