A heat wave impacted the San Diego County Deserts starting on July 1st and lasted through the 3rd. Highs each afternoon at Borrego Valley Airport topped out at 113 degrees on the 1st and 2nd, and hit 115 degrees on the 3rd. Excessive Heat Warnings were in effect during this time.

Strong high pressure over the southwestern US led to increasing heat over Southern California in early July. High heat occurred each afternoon July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, after which temperatures slowly cooled down.
