Event narrative

A cluster of thunderstorms produced heavy rain during the early afternoon hours through portions of Capitol Reef National Park, with Multi-Radar/Multi-Sensor estimates of around 0.50 to 0.75 inches of rain. Subsequently, Capitol Reef National Park reported that state Route 24 east of the visitor center was impassable due to high water and debris. Additionally, minor flooding was reported in the campground.

Wider weather episode

A shift in the atmospheric pattern from mid to late July brought an array of impacts to much of Utah, including severe thunderstorm wind gusts, large hail, and flash flooding.
