What the National Weather Service wrote

The Murray's Hill mesonet station recorded a wind gust of 73 mph as a result of outflow winds associated with a nearby cluster of showers and thunderstorms moving through the area.

The wider storm

Sufficient moisture continued to flow through the region in late July, leading to daytime convection most days. This convection was occasionally strong to severe, yielding localized strong wind gusts in addition to flash flooding.
