What the National Weather Service wrote

The initial damage was observed along Ben Gamble Road where several pine trees were uprooted. The only structural damage was to a small barn where metal covering was bent. Additional wind damage was observed near West Main Street, and Bowman Avenue where a few oak trees were uprooted. The divergent damage pattern is consistent with damaging thunderstorm winds.

The wider storm

A highly anomalous weather pattern involving a closed low and a trailing cold front brought discrete thunderstorms and multicell clusters in multiple rounds to east Tennessee. Repeat events as well as training of cells resulted in flash flooding, some of it significant.
