Event narrative

Thunderstorm winds downed a tree that landed across both lanes of US 460 West, between Odd Fellows and Candlers Mountain Road exits.

Wider weather episode

A slow-moving cold front dropping south from the Ohio Valley. As this front encountered an airmass with modest shear and very unstable conditions, it allowed allowed for afternoon thunderstorms to develop. Some of these storms were discrete and produced large hail. After the storms began to merge into bowing segments, damaging winds resulted.
