A trained spotter near Silver Lake reported hail up to the size of pennies.

A surface trough was located along the Rio Grande Valley with southeast surface winds bringing in modest moisture to the Sacramento Mountains. A weak disturbance moving through northwest flow aloft provided enough lift for a strong thunderstorm to drop hail up to the size of pennies near Cloudcroft.
