Event narrative

A narrow, vertical waterspout was observed via the WFO Key West webcams. The view of the water surface was obscured, however the condensation cloud extended from the cloud base to the horizon. The waterspout moved toward the southwest around 5 knots.

Wider weather episode

Numerous waterspouts developed in association with developing showers along a regenerative convective cloud line flanking the Lower Florida Keys. The atmosphere consisted of high convective available energy and little if any convective inhibition.
